Professor Peter Pietzuch awarded the government AI Futures Grant

We are delighted to announce that Professor Peter Pietzuch, I-X Co-Director (Research), has been awarded an AI Futures Grant from the Department for Business and Trade. The AI Futures Grant is designed to help address the costs of relocating to the UK for AI talents with exceptional promise. The £100,000 award will enable I-X academics to recruit new members for their research groups. The recruitment for the new roles will take place over the next nine months.

The grant is part of the Government’s AI Futures initiative, which aims at attracting AI experts, including early to mid-career researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and policy makers, and supporting them in achieving their academic ambitions in the UK’s AI ecosystem. The scheme is designed to help the outstanding applicants meet the costs of relocating to the UK by providing financial support to reimburse relocation costs, including costs of visa, travelling and subsistence, the immigration health surcharge, transporting belongings, and acquisition of new residence. Successful candidates are eligible to get up to £10,000 to meet relocation costs (subject to terms and conditions).

It is a fantastic opportunity for I-X to attract top-tier international talent in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science and digital technologies. The grant will contribute to I-X’s strategy of fostering a collaborative research environment with an international outlook, driven by innovation. Based in the Translation and Innovation Hub (I-Hub) at the Imperial College’s London White City campus – the heart of the White City Innovation District – the researchers will have the unique opportunity to work closely with our industrial partners and businesses to better understand new technologies and facilitate their application in key areas such as healthcare, sustainability, defence, and economy.

Professor Peter Pietzuch said: “The I-X initiative at Imperial College London thrives due to our talent in AI, and the AI Futures Grant helps us recruit the best international researchers in AI.”
