The Launch of ACM Transactions on AI for Science Journal

We are excited to announce the launch of the ACM Transactions on AI for Science (TAIS), a new journal published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). TAIS is dedicated to publishing research which demonstrates how scientific challenges can drive new AI, and reciprocally, how computational methods can foster scientific discoveries. It speaks to a breadth of methodological researchers in AI and machine learning, as well as science and engineering researchers. The journal is now open for submissions.

The Co Editor-in-Chiefs of the Journal are:

  • Dr Andrew Duncan (I-X and Department of Mathematics, Imperial College London),
  • Professor Nick Jones (I-X Centre for AI in Science, Imperial College London),
  • Dr Siva Rajamanickam (Sandia National Laboratories).

The TAIS editorial board also includes 22 Associate Editors from Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Dr Andrew Duncan commented: “The field of AI for Science is advancing at an unprecedented pace, propelled by rapid developments in AI and machine learning methodologies. TAIS aims to serve as a conduit for the convergence of cutting-edge AI techniques with innovative applications across diverse scientific disciplines. By encouraging collaboration and breaking down traditional silos, we aim to spark new ideas and discoveries that wouldn’t be possible within any one discipline alone.   If you are a researcher or practitioner working at the interface of AI and Science, please consider submitting your work and being part of this exciting, cross-disciplinary conversation.”

Professor Nick Jones said: “AI will indubitably transform working practice and that includes science: this disruption also creates opportunities for new and deeper connections between disciplines. I see the enthusiastic uptake of AI tools from colleagues in Imperial and world wide and from earth science to pure mathematics: it’s great to help accelerate this direction.”
